How To Troubleshoot Your Google Adsense When It Stops Earning

Internets = srs.biz. Parody motivator.Image via Wikipedia

Have been seriously blogging for over a year now, under the stewardship of Internet Guru Jomar Hilario and so far my Google Adsense earnings have been rising steadily until March 2011 when my earnings suddenly became ZERO, ZILCH, NADA!!!

Checking my site diagnostics, I found that Google was having problems crawling my site due to robot.txt (I'm no techie so just click on the link to get more information about this)

Noticing that the robot.txt file only affected my DOCSTOC account, I disabled my docstoc and I still didn't earn anything!

Short of creating a new blogger account ergo new blogs, I spent my after-work hours searching forums upon forums if there was any other way to troubleshoot my existing Adsense account but to no avail.

Until I came upon Google Webmaster Tools!

So let me share with you the steps I took and hope this would help you solve your Adsense earning problems.
Disclaimer: I'm no expert and what I share here is based on my experience and although this tip worked for me, it might not work for everyone. But if it does, I'm only glad to help!

1. Sign up for Google Webmaster Tools

2. Click on "Add your site"

3. Click "Manage"

4. Click "Add or remove owners"

5. Under Verification details, you will see that the verification method is HTML file. You should use Meta Tag as your method especially when you use a lot of images in your blogs like I do. So to add a Meta tag, click on "Verify using a different method"

7. Under Verify ownership, click on "Add a meta tag to your site's homepage". The instructions for adding the tag will appear below. Completely copy the tag (make sure everything is copied!)

8. Now open your blog (yup, that's me!)

9. Click on the "Design" of your blog

10. Go to "Edit HTML"

11. Ok, this looks tough but you only have to locate where the <head> and <title> sections of the HTML of your site.
Why? Because that is where you will need to insert the meta tag! Tip: <head> is usually found at the top of your HTML (duh!) and a few lines below that is the <title>.

12. When you find the sections, insert the meta tag accordingly:

13. Click "Save template"

14. Go back to Google Webmaster Tools and repeat Steps 3 and 4

15. Click on the "+Details" of your Meta Tag

16. Click "Verify" at the bottom of the page
17. The result should indicate "Verification succeeded" if you followed the above instructions carefully.

18. Be PATIENT---don't expect your Adsense to earn instantaneously! Wait for a few days and observe your account. I waited for 2 days then....
VOILA!!!

19. Check your "Site Diagnostics" to see if your blogs/ URLs are still being blocked (they shouldn't be when the verification was successful)

Note: I noticed that after this, my earnings started slowly again like the first time I started blogging (like my account was reset or something) so I would advise that you start posting as often as before.
